Teen shot and killed at Franklin County Courthouse

A tragic event happened in the Franklin County Courthouse this week.  On Wednesday, January 17, 2018, a Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy shot a 16-year-old male during a struggle in Franklin County Juvenile Court.

There are conflicting accounts of what happened. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office and the Fraternal Order of Police, the union representing deputies at the Sheriff's office, said that the deputy was knocked down and violently attacked by multiple people.  The family of the 16-year-old and others dispute that claim, claiming that the deputy overreacted.

An investigation is ongoing by Ohio's Bureau of Criminal Investigation.  The Franklin County Sheriff's Office has not released the name of the deputy because he has received numerous death threats.
